In a statement, the eminent jurist and the drafter of the constitution expressed his hope that the army deployment will create a fair environment for the election, ‘which is missing so far’.
“The army must create a level-playing field for all the parties and play a positive role,” said Dr Kamal in the statement.
The EC will deploy Armed Forces in the country on Monday ahead of the national polls.He said that the country’s people believe that the army will not stand against the public interest or seek to implement the agenda of an individual or a group of people.
“The armed forces serve the country and its people, and the image of the armed forces cannot be tarnished for a handful of individuals,” he added.
The Election Commission on December 13 decided that members of the armed forces will be deployed as the striking force for 10 days from December 24 in the 11th national election.
According to the commission, over 7 lakh security men alongside the armed forces members will be there in the field on the voting day.
On December 18, the EC has deployed a total of 1,016 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces across the country to maintain law and order.-Ittefaq
